In his sophomore season, David set a new record for all-purpose yards at DeSoto HS, amassing 1,050 yards and scoring eight touchdowns. His junior season was even more impressive, as he returned 13 punts and kickoffs for touchdowns and caught 60 passes for 1,123 yards and 10 receiving touchdowns.
David's athletic prowess extended beyond the football field. In the spring, he showcased his speed on the track, clocking a 10.35 in the 100-meter dash, the second-fastest time in Texas at that time.

After graduation, David played football for the University of Oklahoma, where he won the Derrick Shepard Award. He also competed in two national championships (the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl) and three Big-12 Championships under the legendary coach Bob Stoops.
David concluded his collegiate career at the University of South Dakota, where he excelled as an all-conference wide receiver and earned track All-American honors.
